Activities under Abilis Project
- Gender equality training to the BVI Spouses in Bardiya District
From 29th November to 1st December 2016, in the hall of Bijay guest house in Gulayriya, Bardiya, Blind Women Association-Nepal (BWAN) organized a three-day-long training entitled “Gender Equality to the Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) Spouses,” in collaboration with Banke Association of the Blind (BAB), a local organization under the sector of blindness. The main goal of this training was to bring changes in the roles and responsibilities between husband and wife by educating and sensitizing them about gender equality. Nine couples from three districts i.e. Banke, Bardiya, and Surkhet were benefitted from this training.
- Gender equality training to the BVI spouses in Kaski district
During 11-13th January 2017, in the hall of Kathmandu Association of the Blind (KAB), Budibazar Pokhara, BWAN organized a three-day-long training entitled “Gender Training to the BVI Spouses” in collaboration with Kaski Association of the Blind. The training focused on changing the roles between husband and wife and on reinforcing the idea of mutual responsibilities by sensitizing them about gender equality. The participants were from three districts i.e. Baglung, Tanahu, and Kaski. Ten couples have been benefitted from this training.
3. Personality Development Training for BVI women in Gorkha district
From 15th to 19th, January 2017, in the hall of Manaslu hotel and lodge, in Gorkha district, BWAN organized “Personality Development Training along with Mobility Skills” in collaboration with Gorkha Association of the Blind (GAB). This training aims to develop BVI women’s personal growths along with the mobility that naturally enables their social participation and competitions. A special package for five days of training was prepared, including courses of facial expression, body movement, dressing, make-up, public speaking, mobility as well as cutting and cooking. This training has also incorporated education on reproductive health with the aim to support these women to successfully have children. Fourteen BVI women have been benefitted from this training and developed confidence for their professional careers and daily activities.
- Gender Equality Training to the BVI Spouses in Jhapa District
From 4th to 6th February 2017, in the hall of Umbrella hotel in Birtamod, Jhapa, BWAN organized a three-day-long training entitled “Gender Equality to the BVI Spouses.” BWAN conducted this training in collaboration with Jhapa Association of the Blind (JAB). The training focused on changing the roles between husband and wife and on reinforcing the idea of mutual responsibilities by sensitizing them about gender equality. Six couples were benefitted from this training.
- Organization Management Training to the BVI Women Leaders in Kathmandu
From April 2nd to 16th 2017, in the hall of Visitor’s Village, Kapurdhara, Kathmandu, BWAN organized a 15-day-long training entitled “Organization Management training to the BVI Women leaders” with the financial support of Abilis foundation. This training focused on providing organization management skill to BVI women leaders and helping to strengthen their abilities to work for their organizations. There were twenty two participants in the training–fourteen participants were from thirteen different districts, and the other eight were BWAN board members.
- Workshop on Organization’s Strategy Planning
From 18th to 19th October 2017, in the hall of Nepal Association of the Blind, Nepal (BYAN), Sukedhara Kathmandu, BWAN organized a two-day-long workshop entitled “Five Years Strategy Planning of the Organization.” The main goal of the workshop was to develop the five years strategy with Vision Mission and Goals (VMG) for the blind women association. The entire executive committee of BWAN and a few general members participated in the workshop and contributed to completing VMG and strategies based on their experiences. Altogether, fifteen participants were benefitted from the workshop including staff and volunteers.
